Hi! I’m Josh and I cook…. A lot!
I began my cooking career in my apartment in Tallahassee, Florida, where my parents thought I was attending college, but I was really teaching myself how to cook. I was absolutely terrible, but loved it and it took over my life.
From there, I knew I wanted to cook professionally, so I applied to the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY. I got in somehow, and began attending classes a few months after.
I met my wife, and love of my life in the first week of school, and we both were lucky enough to do our externships in Napa Valley, where I got to work at Bottega, my first restaurant job, for chef Michael Chiarello. I absolutely loved it, loved living in Napa Valley and learned so much! I staged at Michelin starred restaurants on most of my days off, thanks to Chef Chiarello, at restaurants such as the three Michelin starred Meadowood, bistro Jeanty, Michelin starred Ubuntu and Michelin starred Redd.
After culinary school, my wife and I knew we wanted to go back to the west coast and I knew exactly where I wanted to work, Michelin starred Moroccan restaurant, Aziza.
So, we moved across the country and began working in San Francisco, where we both eventually got to work for an amazing catering company after I left Aziza and my wife and I instantly fell in love with catering.
After working for the company for a year, we decided to move back to where I grew up, South Florida! So, we packed up and moved back across the country, where we opened up a food truck and catering company in Miami.
After a long year and a half working on our food truck and catering company, we knew we didn’t want to operate a food truck anymore and solely focus on what we wanted to do, catering!
So, we sold the food truck, and yup you guessed it, moved back across the country to where my wife is from, and started our catering company in Reno, NV!
We started catering in Reno and Lake Tahoe 12 years ago and still have our catering company today! We started out very small, catering small, intimate dinner parties to now catering every type of event while focusing on weddings all over the Reno and Lake Tahoe region. We have built our company from scratch and have the most amazing team, which we couldn’t cater the over 200 events a year that we do, without them!
My beautiful wife and I have two incredible children, who rarely eat anything we cook, two dogs and an awesome life here in Reno.
I decided to start Joshcooks.alot to share with everyone all of the techniques and recipes I have learned over the years and couldn’t have picked a better partner in this, one of our old chefs, Zak, who is the guy behind the scenes of Joshcooks.alot.
So, follow along, try our recipes, share them with your friends, and let us know what you want to see us cook next!
